Donkey Kong Land-the introduction
Donkey Kong Land is a very popular video game which was created by Rareware for the Game Boy, which is a kind of hand video game, having 8-bit processor. This device, Game Boy, is manufactured by Nintendo. Donkey Kong Land for Game Boy was released in 1995. It is the follow up of the original game called Donkey Kong Country, also developed by Rareware and published by Nintendo. Along with its sequels, Donkey kong land 2 and Donkey kong land 3, it features a special kind of yellow cartridge. It even displays, rather first to display the special features of super Gameboy, such as throughout the television screen, a jungle border is flashed.
Although it cannot be overlooked that both the Gameboy’s Donkey kong land and Donkey kong country uses the same engine, both have different storyline and also Donkey kong land features levels, enemies and bosses that are completely different from the Donkey kong country.
Story
The main storyline as illustrated by the instruction booklet issued by gameboy is as follows. After the Donkey kong country events are successfully completed, Donkey kong and Diddy kong are seen discussing their adventures to Crankey kong, the always complaining grandfather of Donkey kong. According to Cranky, the success of the adventure was due to the use of hi-fi and sophisticated graphics, refuting which Donkey and Diddy argued that not because of the hi-fi graphics but because of the fact that the game resorts to plain fun, it is such a hit. This however, failed to convince the grand old monkey, compelling Donkey and Diddy to go for an adventure again, with King K.Rule, the villain, challenged again to steal the Banana Hoard. Thus, King K. Rule is called up by Cranky to overnight steal the Banana hoard, and our two heroes, Donkey and Diddy gear up for another rescue of Banana Hoard.
Game play
Designed as a 2-D platform game, the Donkey Kong land is originally created for the Game Boy. It’s a game for the 8-bit system, the limitations of gameboy put restraints on Donkey kong land, thus making it less than its predecessor, which is meant for the 16-bit system .Level select screen no longer displays the stage names, and Bonus levels have been reduced in each stage. If the bonus points have been found by the heroes at an area, above the circular mark of the level, an exclamation point is shown.
There is a total of four worlds each divided into seven levels except the first world named Gangplank Galleon Ahoy! The first world has nine levels in total. In order to progress to the next world, a boss level that appears at the end of each world needs to be succeeded. One can even succeed to later levels directly through shortcuts. For this, barrel shaped bombs are to be found in some levels and u can use these to blast through large boulders. Destroying the boulders leads to direct passageway to some certain later level without even completing the levels before it. Contrary to Donkey kong country, our two heroes won’t be requiring much of an assistance, since they can move one level to other and one world to other on foot in Donkey Kong Land of Gameboy
Similar to other games, the aim is to complete each level to successfully to enter the next level. Each level has its share of enemy, from whom the monkeys have to be safe. The kongs need to carefully move through each level, or else they can be attacked by the enemies. This can make one monkey to run away, leaving the other by itself to fend for it. One needs to carefully play in such situation since losing both the monkeys will lead to defeat at the end of the level. Luckily, in each level, kind of common barrels called Buddy barrels are given to recover missing Kongs. The levels also have some continue points, touching which leads Kong back to the last continue point in case the level is loosed. The end of each level is marked with a portal, which requires the player to jump into it in order to exit the level.
