Playable Characters and Abilities

Donkey kong and his buddy cum nephew Diddy kong are the payable character. As of their features and abilities, there is variation in the stats of both these monkey. Diddy is fast and small whereas Donkey is stronger and does not require TNT barrel to beat his powerful foes.

Both of them can however jump to defeat enemies, cross the pits, or simply to jump in order to get higher. They also have the ability to roll into the enemies and eliminate them. This in addition also that boosts their speed. The kongs may require to cross wide abyss which might be too large to jump over. In order to cross them, the kongs need to combine their roll and cartwheel moves, along with jump move to get through. Additional abilities include climbing ropes and swimming through water, though not much used. Climbing requires ropes. The heroes simply require jumping and touching the rope. It is particularly useful while crossing large gaps. Some levels commonly have rope to jump. Their swimming ability comes to play in underwater levels. While swimming, the kongs need to be careful since their grasp in water is not as concrete as on land.

Animal Buddies

There are only two animal buddies in Donkey kong land, quite contrary to Donkey Kong country. They don’t even appear much frequently. Also, animal buddies do not shoot through the barrels, and when these obstacles are soughed, the animal buddies drop to the ground. In fact, Animal Buddies seldom appear in most levels. But still, with their abilities they are of much help to the Kongs. The buddies are Rambi the Rhinoceros and Expresso the Ostrich.

First appearance of Rambi the Rhinoceros is in the level Jungle Jaunt. His speciality is that he is quite able to attack the enemies to defeat them easily. It is also able to break certain walls so that the heroes can get into a Bonus Level. Thus, it can be seen how important Rambi is to complete the game.

The other Animal Buddy is Expresso the Ostrich. It first appears in the Bonus Level which is located in Deck Trek. Expresso’s flying abilities find its use to help Kongs to cross the wide abysses, which, without the help of Expresso is quite difficult to cross. Three appearance of the Expresso, out of four, occurs in Bonus Levels. Expresso does not help to find Bonus levels, but is used inside the levels. In addition, it can also defeat enemies.

Items

There are many items that are found in Donkey Kong Land, each having a different purpose.

Bananas- These are the most available items in the adventure. An extra life is given if 100 of these are collected.

Banana Bunches- They appears often during the playing of the game.1 banana branch is equal to ten normal bananas and more is better.

Barrels- These are abundant in the game and are a common item. These can be used as a weapon to defeat some of the strongest enemies and also deform the walls.

Kong Tokens- These appear most often in the game. These can be exchanged for extra lives in certain Bonus places

Kong Letters- These are the most important items of the game. These four letters are scattered in different places in order. One among these must be collected by the Kongs for their game to be saved. These can also be used as platforms in the Kong Krazy level.

Enemies and Hazards

Nineteen types of different enemies and hazards are there in Donkey Kong Land. In fact, there are many such foes that do not even show themselves in any level except at the last one. Swirlwinds often help the monkeys in their journey, other than causing harm to them. Army, Chomps, Clambo, Gnawty, Fangfish, Hogwash, Klaptrap, Kritter, Krusha, Mincer, Mini Necky, Necky, Nemo, OilDrum, Slippa, Slippa Jar, Snapper, Swirlwind, Zinger are the 19 foes.

Bosses

The players along with enemies also face several bosses throughout the game to make it more interesting and a bit difficult. The bosses are a bit more powerful than the others and require more skills to destroy them. At the end of every game’s worlds, bosses appear and they must be defeated for the heroes to succeed. Wild sting, Colossal clambo, Hard Hat, and King K. Rool are the four bosses.
